The charity's flagship programme is its outstandingly successful Butterfly Saturday Reading Programme.
Real Action's Butterfly Reading Programme enables children aged 5-12 from 'disadvantaged' families to catch up, and get ahead at school, and sets them on course for rewarding lives. Real Action has over 250 children, a waiting list, and a dedicated team of teachers including volunteers at its Saturday morning school. Results are outstanding: in six months of weekly two-hour sessions in term-time average improvement in children's 'reading age' is 13 months. From this September the children are benefiting from a further class of structured arithmetic, with an emphasis on high-speed mental arithmetic at their Saturday sessions. The school is hugely popular among local families and urgently needs funds to pay for classrooms, books and materials, and for a core of committed teachers
